It’s not Christmas, but I feel like I need a list to keep up with things. In the process of raising funds to financially support twenty different nonprofit organizations in Laramie County, we also strive to educate, motivate, and celebrate whenever possible.
World Cancer Day is today (February 4). There aren’t too many families who have not been affected by cancer in one way or another. We extend our thoughts and prayers for anyone currently undergoing the battle against cancer. We also celebrate the survivors. It has been 35 years for me personally since my first diagnosis with cancer. I am grateful to all who have had a hand in my survival.
Rosa Parks is celebrated on February 4 and December 1 each year. Rosa Parks died in 2015, but her memory lives on. We celebrate her courage and her life.
The Winter Olympics begin today (February 4). We celebrate our athletes and the discipline they demonstrate throughout their years of training to reach this level. We extend our best wishes to TEAM USA.
I look forward to being on KGAB Radio tomorrow morning (February 5) with Doug Randall on Weekend in Wyoming. You can catch me on the air at approximately 11:02 A.M.
Wednesday, February 9, is National Pizza Day. What does that have to do with work? Absolutely nothing, but it could play a definitive role at lunchtime. What kind of deals can we find on this day from our local pizzerias?
I am looking forward to visiting “My Front Door” on Thursday, February 10. This is another one of our program partners that we support. It is always a privilege for me to learn first-hand about the good work being accomplished by our partners.
February 11 is “National 211 Day”. We celebrate our team in Cheyenne for the good work they do in connecting people with the resources they need.
Do you need something fun to do locally? The Cheyenne Home Show is February 11 through February 13. The Farm and Ranch Show is February 18 through February 20.
It seems like football season has been over for a long time already if you are a fan of the Denver Broncos. However, there is some kind of game happening on February 13. Denver isn’t playing. Sadly, Josh Allen isn’t playing either. However, we celebrate Casper, Wyoming’s hometown star, Logan Wilson, who is getting to enjoy the big game with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Get ready to practice kindness. Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 13 through February 19. Random Acts of Kindness Day is February 17. Be looking for my team out and about as we build hope and spread joy in some unique ways that week.
Finally, next week we will be drawing the last of the 13 finalists for the car voucher. Then, on Wednesday, February 23, we will gather our 13 finalists for lunch at Halladay Auto Group and draw the winner from those 13. That person will receive a $15,000 voucher toward the purchase of a car from the Halladay Auto Group. We are extremely grateful to Halladay for this generous contribution.
Blessings and peace to each of you!
With a grateful heart,
Vernon Dobelmann
